Back to Animal Index

Scientific Name: Chlamydosaurus kingii

Range: Northern Australia and New Guinea.

Habitat: Moist tropical and warm temperate forests and woodlands with shrubby understory.

Interesting Facts:

Frilled Lizards display large skin flaps around the edge of their heads when threatened, giving them their names. They are primarily found in trees, but when on the ground, they will often use bipedal locomotion and flee from predators by running on their hind legs. Their skin patterns resemble tree bark, giving them excellent camouflage when their frills are folded.
